Termite tune, a poem by Alice Schertle

Termite tune
(Alice Schertle)
Got wood?
That is the termite tune.
Got wood?
A chair, a wooden spoon,
the fat legs of planos,
they're enough to make us drool,
a mantel clock, a windowsill,
your little kitchen stool.
We will gobble the foundation
(You'll be walking on a slant.)
Can you save your favorite rocker?
If it's wooden, no you can't.
Got wood?
If you would like to share
(or if you wouldn't --do we care?)
we'll munch the bottom of your door
then chew our way across the floor,
the baseboards, roof, and every wall--
It's good, it's good, we'll eat, it all.
Then, when you haven't any more
we'll go and eat the house next door.
Got wood?

Spring Songs

Put up your umbrella
When the rain comes down.
Wear a happy smile
And wipe away a frown.
Splash in all the puddles
And do a little dance.
Rain is just the thing we need
For new spring plants.

*

Spring

What a lovely time of year,
Time of year, time of year.
What a lovely time of year
In our springtime garden.
See the flowers swing and sway,
Swing and sway, swing and sway.
See the flowers swing and sway
In our springtime garden.

*

Spring friends

Little white bunny in your hutch
I like you so very much.
With furry coat and ears that flop,
off you go- hop, hop, hop.

Little yellow duck with feathery back,
I can hear you,
Quack, quack, quack.
Swimming in the pond nearby,
off you fly up to the sky.

*

Spring Song

I see robins, I see bird's nests
Butterflies too, flowers too
Everything is growing
The wind is gently blowing
Spring is here, spring is here

*

Spring, spring, spring

Spring, spring, spring.
I love spring!
I love the way the flowers grow.
Tulips! Daffodils!
All in a row.
Oh, so pretty!
I want you to know
That I love spring!
I love spring!

Us fiquem un exemple:

Monday's Child
Monday's child is fair of face,
Tuesday's child is full of grace,
Wednesday's child is full of woe,
Thursday's child has far to go,
Friday's child is loving and giving,
Saturday's child works hard for a living,
And the child who is born on the Sabbath Day
Is bonny and blithe, and good and gay.

Matemàtiques, amor i poesia / Matemáticas, amor y poesía

El beso preciso
(Teorema del Círculo de Descartes)

Acuden cuatro círculos a un beso;
y si es cóncava tiene signo menos;

(Christina Rossetti)
De la mañana a la noche
gritan los duendes a troche y moche:
"nuestros frutos comprad,
venid, venid y comprad
membrillos y manzanas,
limones y naranjas
rollizas cerezas,
melones y fresas,
sonrosados melocotones,
arándanos silvestres
moras atezadas,
zarzamoras muy moradas,
piñas y garraberas,
albaricoques y frambuesas;
que alcanzan su madurez
en verano todas de vez;
la mañana llega
y la tarde se aleja,
comprad lo que el verano deja:
de la viña uvas frescas,
granadas hermosas y plenas,
dátiles y peras,
de fraile y claudias son las ciruelas,
también damascenas y de yema,
venid y probadlas, no os dé pena:
pasas y grosellas,
encarnadas bayas,
higos a raudales
cítricos meridionales,
dulces y lozanos:
comprad, alargad esa mano.
...

Què us sembla?

Halloween amb poesia / Halloween con poesia / Halloween with poetry

Halloween amb poesia -il. Claudia Souza-

Cinco calabazas

Five little pumpkins
(popular English poem)

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate.
The first one said, "oh my it's getting late."
The second one said, "there are witches in the air."
The third one said, "but we don't care!"
The fourth one said, "let's run and run and run."
The fifth one said, "I'm ready for some fun!"
OOOhh OOOhh went the wind
And out went the lights
And the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight.

Sun, Sun, Sun,
Come let us have fun,
Come out down the lanes,
When summers begins.
In the sweet day,
So that we can play.

y el arroyo encrespado se desplaza riendo;
y la verde colina ríe del estrépito que hacemos;
cuando los prados ríen con vívidos verdes,
y ríe la langosta ante la escena gozosa;
acercaos y alegraos, y uníos a mí,

No Sun.

No Moon.

No Sun. No Moon.

No sun. No moon.
No stars. No sky.
I made them disappear.

I didn't use
a magic wand.
I had no special gear.

I didn't cast an evil spell.
I didn't use first aid.
I didn't do a tribal dance....

I just pulled down my shade.

Podeu acompanyar aquests poemetes i cançons amb unes simpàtiques i terribles il·lustracions sobre tots els temes de Halloween -calaveres, carabasses, bruixes, vampirs, esquelets, xiquets disfressats, mòmies, etc)

Halloween Surprise

First you take a pumpkin

Big and fat and round
Then you cut the top off
That will make a hat
Then you hollow out the
Nose and mouth and eyes
Now you have a Jack-O-Lantern
Halloween Surprise!

Three Little Ghosts

Three little ghosts on Halloween night; saw a witch and freaked in freight.
The witch just laughed and shouted BOO.
One ghost ran home and then there were two.
Two little ghost who shiver and shook, with every single step they took;
When the door opened wide "A scary goblin stood inside"
One ghost said to the other "I'm going home and stay with my mother."
One little ghost can't have much fun, so he ran home , then there were none.

A Pumpkin is a Pumpkin

A Pumpkin is a pumpkin

"There was an old witch"

There was an old witch
Believe it if you can
She tapped on the windows and she ran, ran, ran.
She ran helter-skelter
With her toes in the air
Cornstalks flying
From the old witches hair.

"Swish" goes the broomstick
"Meow" goes the cat
"Plop" goes the hoptoad
Sitting on her hat
"Whee!" chuckled I,
"What fun, what fun"
Halloween night
When the witches run.

Us fiquem uns quants poemetes, senzills i fàcils, en anglès.

Bona Pasqua amb poesia / Happy Easter in poetry

Colouring Easter Eggs
(Sarah Benedetti)
I take an egg
All shiny white
And then I dip
It out of sight.
I leave it there
Within the cup
Then after a minute
I pick it up.
And oh!
It's a lovely
Shade of green!
The prettiest Easter egg
I've ever seen.

*
Easter Surprise
Easter eggs,
Yellow and blue,
Easter eggs,
For me and you.
Easter eggs,
Candy sweet,
Easter eggs,
Are good to eat.
Easter eggs,
Pretty and funny,
But...
Where oh where the Easter Bunny?

*
Easter
The Easter Bunny's feet
Go hop, hop, hop,
While his big pink ears
Go flop, flop, flop.
He is rushing on his way
To bring our eggs on Easter Day,
With a hop, flop, hop, flop, hop.

*
Hop, Hop, Hop
Hop, hop, hop,
Hop my bunny hop,
Hop along my little bunny
You look sweet and very funny
On this Easter day.
Look and see,
Where the eggs may be,
Here is on and here's another,
Here's a lovely one for mother.
Let us look and see,
Where the eggs may be.

*
This Little Bunny
This little bunny has two pink eyes.
This little bunny is very wise.
This little bunny is soft as silk.
This little bunny is white as milk.
This little bunny nibbles away
At cabbages and carrots the livelong day!

Chocolate Rabbit
I got a chocolate rabbit
For an Easter treat,
A great big chocolate rabbit,
Good enough to eat.
So I ate his ears on Sunday,
his nose I finished Monday,
Tuesday I nibbled on his feet.
I ate his tail on Wednesday,
Thursday I kept on,
By Friday he was going,
Saturday he was gone.
Oh, I loved that chocolate rabbit,
From the moment that he came,
And if I get another one,
I'll love him just the same.

*
Patience
(Bobbie Katz)
Chocolate Easter bunny
In a jelly bean nest,
I'm saving you for very last
Because I love you best.
I'll only take a nibble
From the tip of your ear
And one bite from the other side
So that you won't look queer.
Yum, your'e so delicious!
I didn't mean to eat
Your chocolate tail till Tuesday.
Ooops! There go your feet!
I wonder how your back tastes
With all that chocolate hair.
I never thought your tummy
Was only filled with air!
Chocolate Easter bunny
In a jelly bean nest,
I'm saving you for very last
Because I love you best.

Tigre! ¡Tigre! ardiendo brillante
En los bosques de la noche,
¿Qué ojo o mano inmortal
Pudo idear tu terrible simetría?
*
The tiger
Tiger, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?
In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare seize the fire?
And what shoulder and what art
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand and what dread feet?
What the hammer? what the chain?
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? What dread grasp
Dare its deadly terrors clasp?
When the stars threw down their spears,
And water'd heaven with their tears,
Did He smile His work to see?
Did He who made the lamb make thee?
Tiger, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?
*
Tigre! Tigre! Foc brunyit
en les selves de la nit,
¿Quin immortal ull o mà
tan bell i fer t'emmarcà?

¿En quins cels o mars distants
el foc dels teus ulls cremava?
A tals ales Ell pujà?
Prendre el foc la mà gosava?

¿Quina espatlla o art podia
del teu cor tendons torçar?
Quan el cor bategaria,
quin temible peu i mà!

Quina cadena i martell?
De quin forn surt el cervell?
Quina enclusa? ¿Quina garra
Por mortal cenyir gosava?

Quan estels deixant les llances
mullaven el cel amb llàgrimes,
a l'obra seva Ell somreia?
Qui et forjà, va fer l'ovella?

Tigre! Tigre! Foc brunyit
en les selves de la nit,
¿quin immortal ull o mà
emmarcar-te fer gosà?
(Traducció d'A. Turull)

Mitomania poètica en The Archive Poetry: regalar poemes d'amor recitats pels teus actors favorits

A woman's face with nature's own hand painted
Hast thou, the master-mistress of my passion;
A woman's gentle heart, but not acquainted
With shifting change as is false women's fashion;
An eye more bright than theirs, less false in rolling,
Gilding the object whereupon it gazeth;
A man in hue all hues in his controlling,
Which steals men's eyes and women's souls amazeth:
And for a woman wert thou first created,
Till nature as she wrought thee fell a-doting,
And by addition me of thee defeated,
By adding one thing to my purpose nothing.
But since she pricked thee out for women's pleasure,
Mine be thy love and thy love's use their treasure.
*
He visto rosas rojas, blancas y adamascadas,
Mas juro y considero a mi amada tan única,

Happy Halloween
(Linda Aymond)
--> --> --> -->
In the sky the full moon shines bright.
Monsters creeping about through the night.
Ghosts and goblins, vampires and mummies
Searching for goodies to fill their tummies.
A knock on the door, "What's this I hear?"
Is this an evening to be filled with fear?
But, there is no reason to feel fright.
It's only a fairy ready to take flight.
"Trick or treat," is their song.
A few pieces of candy
and the gremlins are gone.
*

In September Time
All the fruit is ripe and mellow
When the fall flowers dress in yellow
In September time.
Leaves are turning red and brown,
Trees with nuts are bending down
In September time.

September
(Helen Hunt Jackson,1830-1885)
By all these lovely tokens
September days are here,
With summer’s best of weather
And autumn’s best of cheer.

Autumn
(Anon)
The goldenrod is yellow
The corn is turning brown
The trees in apple orchards
With fruit are bending down.
